Long Distance Survival Guide

You meet someone. They are absolutely amazing, wonderful, and all you care about. You just want to spend every waking moment with this person, they are the first thing you think about when you wake up and the last thing that leaves your thoughts as you fall asleep at night. Only one problem, they are completely out of your reach, for a long period of time.

Ben and I have about 13 months of long distance experience underneath our belts, and we've only got one more to go, thank the heavens. Being in a relationships that is long distance is insanely hard. Sometimes it may feel like it's impossible and you're just going to die! Well, I'm hoping that through my torture, I have picked up on some tips to share that can dismiss that feeling until you can see your better half again.

Skype and Phone Calls
Take the time to log onto your computer and see that face you're so in love with! It makes a world of a difference when you can actually see each other. It makes the conversation so much more fun too, being able to see each others facial expressions. Be sure that when you do get to talk, you talk about everything, especially the boring stuff. Don't feel like you can only talk when you have something special or important to tell. You want to feel like you're actually involved in one anothers lives.
 Texting
Text each other often, but don't feel like it has to be constant. Sometimes texting each other from the second you wake up until you go to sleep can get exhausting and then when you do get the chance to speak on the phone or over Skype, you don't have a whole lot to say. If you were living close by you wouldn't be texting that much!

Pictures
I LOVE opening my phone to find a new picture message of Ben's smiling face right before he heads off to school. It can honestly change the mood of the entire day. Ben and I have started this thing we like to do sometimes, where we will just take pictures of whatever we're doing at the time like hiking, or sitting at work. I sent him a picture of me making macaroni and cheese for goodness sake. It's so easy and it brightens the day.

Letters and Packages
Pull out a piece of paper and a pen, pretend you're in Junior High, and write your significant other a love note. Getting mail is so much fun, and a hand written letter means so much more than a text message or voice mail. It's not hard to do, and stamps are 44 cents. It's also fun to send little packages if you can afford to or have the time. It's a wonderful surprise and so greatly appreciated.
Do Things Together
Sounds silly, I know, but it is possible. Say you have a favorite television show that you used to watch together, keep watching it together. Hop on Skype or give your loved one a call and watch the show while you're speaking to each other! It may sound cheesy, but it's the best thing you've got while you're miles apart. You can do study parties too, help each other out with homework over the phone. It's a great way to keep each other involved in your life and interests.

Personal Gifts
Everyone needs something to remember each other bye. Steal your guy's jacket, or a blanket from your girl. Get each other a little stuffed animal to cuddle with until you're back in each others arms. Cuddling is important, you need your cuddle time, this is the best way to hold you over. Guys, maybe you should get your girly something like this:

Trust
You HAVE to trust each other. In any relationship, trust is one of thee most important things you can have between you. Being far apart really strains this part of your relationship. You have to have so much trust for each other it's unbelievable. Make sure you both understand the limits and expectations from your relationship.
 Stay Positive
Lastly, always ALWAYS stay positive. Things may look drab at the moment, but you can't be apart forever, soon you will be together again and it will all be worth it. Remember, absence makes the heart grow fonder, but long distance relationships are not for the faint of heart. It is extremely trying to maintain a positive relationship with someone miles and miles away from you. So always be sure to smile and know that things can't stay bad forever.

White Wedding

Dago: I've never been to a mormon wedding, do you guys dance?

Sharon: Dago, it has nothing to do with religion, it's race.
At Mexican weddings they dance, but white people just stand
in a line and eat grapes.

Smurfing

Spring break was wonderful.

I needed the break from school and I needed to see my man. The first half of the week I stayed in St. George, working and enjoying the company of great friends that ventured down South for the break.
Come Wednesday, I packed up all my things and was homeward bound. I got so much done while I was in PG for those 5 days. Since the wedding is in less than 5 months now and everyone that has anything to do with the wedding is up north, I had a lot to get nailed down while I was home.
  1. Wedding Dress
  2. Reception Details
  3. Photographer
  4. Cake
Guess what, I did it all.
On Friday afternoon, My Mother, Kristine, Heather and I all walked into the wedding dress shop. I tried on about five dresses, once I put on the sixth, I fell in love. An hour of dress shopping and we were done. I couldn't have been happier. Shopping is NOT my forte.
We went straight from the dress shop to the house of Dawna, who I wanted to do the cake. We saved our date ;) and now all I have to do is meet with her when I move home and decide what I want it to look like.
Later that night Kristine, my Mom and I went to Erin Summerill's home to sign the photography contract. I'm so glad Erin is doing our photo's, she's an AMAZING photographer.
Saturday morning we headed over to Bella Vista, where we're having our super fun reception! We decided on all the decorations and it made me so excited. I can't wait to have everyone there.

Besides all the wedding stuff, I managed to do a lot of other fun things.
I was able to spend an evening with some of by BFF's, we had dinner at Cafe Rio of course. While there Ben snuck up behind me and scared me so bad that I man-screamed and the entire restaurant looked at me.After dinner we all went back to my house for old times sake and played games.

Ben and I visited Kristine at her new job, Savory and Sweet! We got this CRAZY stuff called "Asian Ice". It looks like processed turkey, but it is so extremely delicious.
I was able to see all of my family! It's crazy how much nieces and nephews grow up when you're not around them all the time.
Ben also spoiled me and took me out to a movie and dinner at Olive Garden! Such a sweet boy.

I love going home. It was a perfect spring break.

Spring Break

It is finally spring break!!!! Although, being an adult, responsible and all with a job, spring break does not consist of running off to a sunny place to soak up the sun and bum the week away. No, this years spring break just allows me to take a breather from school before I head into work everyday. That's OK though, why you ask? I will tell you why, my gorgeous fiance has taken a few days off work to come home! :) It has been about a month since the last time I got to see that beautiful face, and that is WAY too long! To say the least, I miss her with every molecule of my being. This will surely be a wonderful week getting to spend time with and see her.

One more thing, since it's been awhile since our last post...
Today marks 5 months exactly until Linds and I get married! And we have officially, as of the 3rd of march, been engaged for a month! It's been an amazing month, and many, many, MANY more to be had together :)
